Monday, September 7th, 2009A cousin flew in from Canada last week. According to my mom, she was complaining about how hot it was in the Philippines and how she wished she was back in Canada already. Srsly. Go home, hon. You don’t belong here anymore.
She was telling me stories about how she asked for something from a service crew (tissue, I think, using a term even I have never heard of) and how the poor dude did not get what she was saying. It wasn’t funny at all. And I, being a so-called Language major, asked, “Why use that term in the first place?” LOL. Had she wanted to get her message across she could have just asked for tissue using the word tissue, right? Right. Apparently, the little girl was trying to show off (she’s twenty).
And I can’t believe she told me to have an English speaking contest with her. XD I just told her, “I don’t speak English in the Philippines.” Although of course, I do. Speaking English to Filipinos is just weird for me. I mean, WHY? Why must I speak English when the other person speaks Kapampangan or Filipino? It’s just odd. And showoffy. Fine, so I do speak English sometimes. But mostly just around my orgmates. I never talk to salesladies or service crews in English, not even for fun. o_o
This is something I dislike about balikbayans. Showing off is a hobby for most of them.
If people came back home only to make fun of other Filipinos, then please, don’t even come back. <_< Keep your asses fixed onto your first world comfort zones. Or if you insist on coming home, keep your mouth shuts and stop comparing the Philippines to the US or to Canada or to Singapore or to France.
My, my. I want to go to Japan but I’m hesitating a bit because as much as I despise a lot of things about the Philippines, I still love it. But I will go to Japan one day. And no, I won’t speak Japanese to Filipinos when I come back.
